DRI:
Drought Research Initiative

2010 DRI Annual Workshop

May 12-14, 2010
Inn at the Forks in Winnipeg
Background:

The DRI project was launched in 2005 to study the 1999-2004/2005 drought that seriously impacted the Canadian Prairies.  This five-year project, which will conclude at or near the end of 2010, has led to significant improvements in our understanding of drought on the Canadian prairies.  Many of these advances have been reported at the annual DRI workshops and subsequently have been published in the formal scientific literature.  This workshop is the last of the five annual workshops and will highlight the research findings and developments of DRI investigators and collaborators that will serve as a basis for the DRI legacy.

(Participants may also wish to consider attending the international GEO-DRI Workshop on Drought Monitoring and Assessment that also will be held at the
Inn at the Forks on May 10 and 11, 2010).

Specific objectives for the 5th DRI workshop:

1)    To review the results of DRI research and to assess how they contribute to our overall understanding of drought.
2)    To report to agencies, partners and the public on the successful results and scientific work of DRI.
3)    To develop a conceptual framework for future drought and extremes research in Canada.
4)    To identify the activities and mechanisms needed to build upon the scientific enthusiasm initiated by DRI in pursuit of future research and funding opportunities related to climate, water resources and extremes.

Register for the Workshop:
In order to help us plan for the event we need those who are planning to attend to register.

Submit an Abstract:

As in previous years, all investigators, collaborators and students are invited to submit abstracts for presentations at the conference.  The presentations may be oral or poster presentations.  In contrast to former years some oral presentations from those who have completed or are completing graduate degrees or post doctorate research projects using DRI funds will also be encouraged.
