DRI:
Drought Research Initiative

Upcoming events

Our first DRI workshop was held on January 11-12, 2006 in Saskatoon.

Information is also available on the network, the network leaders, and facts about drought in Canada in English and French.

The Second DRI Workshop was held on January 11-13, 2007 in Winnipeg.

The Third DRI Workshop was held on January 17-19, 2008 in Calgary.

DRI Workshop #3 is just around the corner. Click here for further information including accommodation and preliminary agenda information.

Previous events

Location: Quebec City
Date: April 12-13, 2007

This workshop is co-hosted by the Quebec Branch of the Canadian Water Resources Assocation (CWRA) and the Canadian Society for Hydrological Sciences (CSHS), and is intended to provide the latest information on low flows practice and research, especially as it pertains to preditions in ungauged basins.

The AGU 2007 Joint Assembly will be held on May 22-25, 2007 in Acupulco, Mexico. A special Union Session on drought has been organized; the session will bring together paleoclimatologists, climatologists, oceanographers and those interested in drought impacts on people and nature, to share results on the role of the Pacific Ocean in the genesis of persistent (multi-decadal to longer) arid periods in the Americas and the impacts of such droughts.

The 2007 CMOS/CGU/AMS conference was held in St. John's, NL, May 28-June 1, 2007. Presentations by DRI network researchers can be found on the Presentations and Publications page.

The 60th Annual National Conference of the Canadian Water Resources Association (CWRA) will take place June 25-28 in Saskatoon, SK. The theme of this year's conference is Science and Technology: Implications for Water Management. Further information is available from the Conference Website or the CWRA Homepage.

The 2007 International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics General Assembly will be held in Perugia, Italy from July 2-13, 2007. Sessions of interest to DRI researchers include Session JMS009 (Hydrological Cycle, Precipitation and Precipitation Systems) and Session JMS015 (Mid-latitude Droughts in a Changing Climate)

The Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) Science Workshop will be held on July 9-10, 2007 at the Hyatt Arlington, Virginia. The workshop has three purposes: 1) to evaluate the science that can be accomplished by the SMAP mission as described by the NRC Decadal Study, 2) articulate clarifications of design or intent that might be required due to the brevity with which the Decadal survey described the mission, and 3) to describe what other measurements from research or operational satellites are necessary to achieve the science expected of the SMAP mission.

Registration and accommodation information as well as a draft agenda can be found at the conference website.

The 28th Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing will be held October 28-November 1, 2007 in Ottawa, ON. The deadline for Abstract submissions has been extended to March 6, 2007. Further information can be found on the conference website.
